Post-Fire Hydrology

  • Flood mapping & hydraulics

FHS provides support in the field of post-fire hydrology to help communities and agencies understand and manage changing watershed conditions after wildfires. We evaluate post-fire runoff and flooding risks using 2-dimensional hydraulic models to better represent how water and debris can move across burned landscapes, supporting planning, emergency response, and long-term recovery efforts.

We deliver clear mapping and technical information that can be used for hazard assessment, infrastructure planning, and communication with stakeholders. As part of our ongoing commitment to staying current with research and best practices, FHS attended the 2026 HydroFlame Partner Meet, collaborating with partners and practitioners focused on advancing post-fire hydrology tools and approaches.

Why it matters: communities know where runoff and debris are likely to go after a wildfire, so they can plan and respond.
